We're delighted to announce that our first official event will be held next month at the stunning Manchester Monastery. The scenic backdrop, well known throughout the city for it’s unrivalled atmosphere, will play host to our inaugural event on Saturday the 3rd of March.
The first annual Empowerment Ball aims to bring together those in the city and surrounding areas who join us in support of the rights of women and children around the world, to enjoy a night of celebration of what One Woman At A Time has achieved thus far, and all the achievements we have on the horizon for the coming year. It is also an excellent chance to spread awareness of the issues that women are facing, particularly in the developing world, and what can be done to help them overcome them and thrive under difficult circumstances.
One Woman At A time is dedicated to empowering women to take hold of their future by supporting them with training, resources and other assistance to enable them to progress in life. We have a particular focus on helping women avoid the fear or possibility of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), early or unwanted marriage and assisting them out of a future of poverty.
The event is set to kick start our fundraising efforts, which will allow us to fund the education of several women in Kenya and Nigeria who are awaiting help with access to courses in nursing, and to ensure the safety and education of children in Nigeria who are facing uncertain futures due to stigmas including Albinism, Downs Syndrome and accusations of witchcraft.
With a full line up of entertainment from acts including singing, dancing, comedy and art, and hosted by the lovely Vogue Williams, the night is not to be missed.
If you would like to attend the event or sponsor one of our women or children in need, please get in touch today to speak to one of the One Woman At A Time team.
We're so pleased to say that our very first Empowerment Ball in aid of One Woman At A Time was a raving success. The event was hosted by our beautiful patron, Leanne Brown, who stepped in at the last minute as transport issues caused by the extreme weather prevented Vogue Williams from being able to make it. You'd never know, as it ended up being a glittering performance that came straight from the heart. Attendees didn't let the weather dampen their spirits either, with glamorous ladies and dashing gents turning out to have a wonderful time and raise some well deserved cash.
The night got off to a great start with a drinks reception surrounded by an unrivalled selection of silent auction prizes, followed by a delicious three course dinner in the stunning surroundings of The Monastery. A full line up of incredible entertainment wowed the guests, including performances by the incredible House of Angels and Stavros Flatley who got everyone up onto the dance floor and well into the party spirit. During the course of the live auction, speed painter Dave Sharp put in a surprise performance, creating not one but two breathtaking pieces of unique art that left the audience in awe of his raw talent.
The night was not only a great time for all those who were lucky enough to be in attendance, it was also incredibly successful in raising cash for our very worthy cause. Whilst we're still waiting on a final official count, early figures indicate that the night may have raised as much as £30,000, which will be used to empower women in the developing world through education, training and resources. We couldn't be more grateful to all those who took the time to attend, donate and bid on our many wonderful auction prizes. A special thank you goes to all those individuals and companies who very kindly donated prizes and/or their time to help us in raising money, as well as to Leanne for organising and hosting the event.
The Empowerment Ball was the first in what we hope will be a series of upcoming events for our charity. If you're interested in helping with, donating to, or attending a future event, get in touch with us to discuss further.
